Known since ancient times, from the Aztec period to the present day as a "supplement of nature", Spirulina is an alga, being in fact a natural bacterium extremely beneficial to the human body. It has always been used for its antioxidant and nutritional benefits, and is now grown in Mexico, Africa, Hawaii and Japan. Due to its natural composition in which phycocyanin is mixed with chlorophyll, spirulina has a blue-green color. It has been used as food even for NASA astronauts, to combat child malnutrition and HIV since the 1980s. It is recommended by the United Nations and the World Health Organization, precisely because it is a natural element that provides food safety. and health.

What is doing?

Due to its composition of natural pigments, such as phycocyanin and chlorophyll, which have antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal effects, with low toxicity and minimal side effects, spirulina has the beneficial property of fighting bacterial plaque that settles in the oral cavity.

Spirulina from toothpaste has the role of reducing bacterial plaque and curing gingivitis. This ingredient is also effective in reducing dental plaque scores significantly compared to baseline scores. This could be attributed to antimicrobial compounds found in cyanobacterial exudates that include polyphenols, fatty acids, glycolipids, terpenoids, alkaloids, carotenoids and a variety of bacteriocins. Harder was the first to observe the antimicrobial substance secreted by algae.

They have also been shown to produce substances that can inhibit microbial growth. The significant anti-gingivitis and anti-inflammatory effect of toothpaste can be attributed to the important constituents, phytocyanin (PC) and gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). Spirulina contains 1.3% GLA and CPC.

Why do we use it?

PRANOYA uses spirulina powder as an ingredient that contributes to the natural green color of the composition in the toothpaste, due to the pigment it contains. Being a 100% natural dye and having antibacterial properties, it gives the toothpaste only properties beneficial to balance and oral health.

Xanthan gum is a non-toxic substance obtained from the fermentation of plant matter, namely a bacterium called Xanthomonas Campestris, which grows on certain species of Brassicaceae where, using the plant substrate, it produces a gum exudate or 'gum', a high molecular weight anionic polysaccharide and its main ingredient is binder.

This substance has been used for a relatively short time as a food ingredient following a study of cereal products carried out by the Department of Agriculture in 1950. In 1968 it was approved by the FDA and today, after fermentation, the substance is subjected to a process in which the polymer is recovered by precipitation with isopropanol, filtered, dried and crushed, being marketed in the form of a cream powder that has an extremely interesting chemical composition. , because it reacts in a specific way with certain substances and has many benefits.

In this sense, it is soluble in hot and cold, forming aqueous solutions of which the viscosity remains unchanged, is compatible with most salts, moderate concentrations of surfactants and most preservatives, is compatible with vegetable hydrocolloids, does not form gels on its own, but forms Thermally reversible gels, does not contain gluten, is non-toxic, and incompatibilities are rare (borates, hypochlorites, peroxides, free radical generators).

What is doing?

As the FDA has confirmed that Xanthan "gum" is a safe substance to be used in foods, such as dressing or salad dressings, as a stabilizer, emulsifier, thickener, it has the same role for oral care products.

Why do we use it?

Like most oral care products, such as PRANOYA toothpaste, they need stabilizers, emulsifiers and thickeners in the chemical process, and the addition of Xanthan "gum" as an ingredient makes it possible to preserve the natural composition of the product.

What is it?

Xylitol is a natural white, crystalline, sweet substance (similar to table sugar) that is found naturally in fruits and vegetables, but which is also produced by the human body. Xylitol is unique among sugar alcohols, having an inhibitory effect on glycolysis.

What is doing?

It is considered to be a karyostatic agent, as it can inhibit the metabolism of carbohydrates from various oral microorganisms, prevent the formation of cavities and provide a particularly pleasant taste while using toothpaste. The inhibitory effect on glycolysis was related to the adoption of xylitol by a PTS (phosphotransferase) system specific for constitutive fructose and the subsequent intracellular accumulation of xylitol-5-phosphate. Such a mechanism reduces the formation of acid in glucose and reduces the content of Streptococcus mutans in both plaque and saliva.

Why do we use it?

In PRANOYA toothpaste, we use Xylitol as a natural sweetener (which offers a pleasant, gentle and sweet taste) but also for the amazing changing effects on plaque. Bacterial plaque is a sticky substance that adheres to the teeth, full of bacteria responsible for bad breath, an effect that can cause tooth decay and gum disease. In addition to the sweet taste, it also produces a cooling sensation in the mouth. At the same time we use Xylitol because it cannot be fermented by oral microorganisms and in combination with Hydroxyapatite it helps to remineralize in a spectacular way.

What is it ?

Zinc is a strong, relatively non-toxic, non-cumulative essential trace element that is found in various foods, but is also used as a dietary supplement. It has many benefits for oral care, but it is also necessary for the proper functioning of the whole body. Zinc also contributes to PTS inhibition, glucose uptake by Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus sanguis and Actinomyses naeslundii, and glucose metabolism to lactic acid.

What is doing?

Zinc offers countless dental benefits. A first benefit would be related to the inhibition of bad breath, also called "bad breath" or halitosis, which comes mainly from the oral cavity. The unpleasant odor is due to the retention of anaerobic, Gram-negative bacteria, which occur after consuming certain foods. These bacteria use sulfur-containing amino acids as a substrate in their production of volatile sulfur-containing compounds (VSCs). VSCs have a distinctly unpleasant odor even in low concentrations. The role of Zinc in this situation is to inhibit the production of ESR in the oral cavity by interacting with sulfur in amino acids or their metabolism. Therefore, Zinc can be retained in the oral cavity for about 2-3 hours after brushing teeth that bind to acidic substances on the oral mucosa, in saliva or on bacterial surfaces.

Zinc is added to toothpastes and mouthwashes in the form of zinc, chloride or zinc citrate.

The effects of zinc are thought to be intracellular, resulting from the inhibition of sulfhydryl enzymes, especially "enzyme L" in the phosphotransferase and aldolase and glyceraldehyde dehydrogenase transport system by the glycolytic pathway.

Zinc also inhibits the trypsin-like protease activity of Porphyromonas gingivalis and Capnocytophaga gingivalis.

Why do we use it?

The role of zinc in PRANOYA toothpaste is to inhibit the growth of plaque and is also used as an inhibitor of dental calculus.
